The template ceiling is located on top of the old Burmeister and Wain shipyard on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen harbor. On the template ceiling, you worked with knock-offs. This means that full-size templates of the ship’s lines were created from ship drawings. It goes without saying that making full-size models required a lot of space, and the ceiling above the shipbuilding hall was perfect for this. From the 1400 m2 of the Skabelonloft, there is a view of the entrance to Copenhagen harbor through the old patinated iron bar windows along the entire facade of the loft.
Today, the Template Loft is shared by many artists and creatives and houses many different types of spaces, including workshops, studios, studios, stairwells, offices, the light tower and the large Template Room. The template ceiling hasn’t changed character since the B&W days, so everything in the ceiling has the most beautiful dilapidated aesthetic.
